BARGOED remain on course for a league and cup double after they won 36-8 at Bedwas to cement their top five place in Championship East.

Fresh from their crushing 65-12 triumph over Ystrad Rhondda at the Principality Stadium to lift the Championship Cup last Sunday, the Bulls' win at Bedwas yesterday move them to within six points of leaders Cardiff Met – with four games in hand.

Jak Robbins' try gave hosts Bedwas the lead but Bargoed hit back to take the spoils thanks to tries from Morgan Edwards, Matthew Lewis, Calum Jones, captain James Leadbeater and Dylan Williams. Josh Prosser kicked four conversions and a penalty. James Dixon also kicked a penalty for Wass.

Bargoed will be playing their rugby in their new 13-team community Premiership next term – as will Cardiff Met who made sure of the top five when they beat St Peters 19-16 in midweek. Bertie Taylor, Sam Trodd and Horace Hopper got the Met tries with two Porter Goodrum conversions.

St Peters bounced back yesterday as they defeated Penallta 50-36 while Rumney saw off Glamorgan Wanderers 27-21.

Beaten cup finalists Ystrad Rhondda were beaten 36-26 at Cross Keys. Lawrence Donnelly scored a hat-trick Keys who also had Tom Sullivan and Ralph Miller among their try scorers with Adam Tetley kicking 11 points.

Newbridge beat Treorchy 48-8. Sam Warkins, Cian Jones, Ieuan Jones grabbed two tries for Newbridge. Matthew Davies got their other try with Robbie Turley kicking five conversions and a penalty.

In Championship West, Narberth took another step towards the title after they won 35-10 at Maesteg Quins. Lewys Gibby scored twice alongside tries for Josh Evans, Guto Davies and Aled Rees. Jonathan Rogers converted all five tries. The Otters retain a fourth point ad- vantage over Brecon with two to play.

Brecon were 37-24 victors at Newcastle Emlyn. Sam Jones, twice, Oliver Lewis, Geraint Walsh and Jake Crockett grabbed the Brecon tries. Dion McIntosh added three conversions and two penalties.

Dunvant were unable to raise a side and meant their game with Llangennech was called off while Bonymaen beat Ystalyfera 31-13. Nathan Brooks, Rhys Leonard, Nick Clancy, Garan Williams and Lawrence Thomas scored for Bonymaen.

Tries from Steff Lewis and Cerith Davies, plus five penalties and a conversion from Rhys Harris guided Trebanos to a 27-24 win against Crymych.
