Benetton ……….. 9 ………. 19

GLASGOW head coach Franco Smith was proud of how his side stuck to the process despite tricky conditions in Treviso.

First-half tries from Johnny Matthews and Stafford McDowall put Glasgow in control at half-time, before three Jacob Umaga penalties brought the Italians back into the match.

Lucio Sordoni was sinbinned but Warriors held firm before Tom Jordan's late try ensured victory.

“It's always tough to win away from home,” Smith said. “I think the conditions made it diffi-binned for killing the bal cult. You could see that in how the pitch cut up and the water didn't make it easy to play.

“Despite that, for us to stick to what we do well and do well without the ball as much as we did with the ball, I'm very happy with that. We're happy with that and now we go on and look towards the next game.

“They are a proud team, they haven't lost here all season.

“I think we know it's better to play without the ball in these conditions and give them the ball because errors will come.”

Glasgow got their first try after Benetton hooker Siua Maile's wild lineout fed Matthews to dive over from close range. Ross Thompson dragged the conversion.

Glasgow went further in front after another Benetton mistake. Umaga was unable to gather Jamie Dobie's kick through, and McDowall touched down after Facundo Cordero hacked the ball towards the try line.

After the break poor discipline let Glasgow down and Umaga took advantage off the tee to get Benetton back in contention.

An arm wrestle ensued but Warriors stood firm in defence before McDowall raced on to Dobie's chip kick and found

Jordan in support, who raced under the posts to score the winning try.
