DONCASTER's Russell Bennett provided a kicking masterclass, shooting five from five amid turbulent conditions as the Yorkshire side overcame a dogged side.

Hooker George Roberts, fullback Maliq Holden and scrum-half Ollie Fox all scored second-half tries as Knights left it late to seal a bonus-point win over the 's basement boys.

Doncaster head coach Joe Ford said: “I'm really pleased, to get five points on the road anywhere in the Championship is not to be sniffed at. Scottish are a good side, their league position is false, and they made it tough for us to convert our chances.”

With a strong South-Westerly wind at Athletic Ground, both teams kept the ball in hand early on, and Doncaster earned an early edge with an Alex Dolly cross-field kick getting them into the Exiles 22-metre area.

A side entry into a ruck allowed Bennett to open the scoring on the sixth minutes and a Scottish scrum penalty allowed the playmaker to extend Donny's lead on the 10th minute.

Exiles forwards were overawed, and the visitors driving maul from a line-out saw them score a penalty try on the 18th minute, with Scottish loose-head Tom Osborne sin-binned for illegally bringing the maul down.

Scottish changed their props to instant effect, the next scrum led to centre Luke Mehson breaking Knights' line, with some quick interplay before Will Brown dashed past Donny hooker Tom Doughty to score. The home-side were in the ascendancy but it took half-an-hour, and a break by Tom Marshall, before openside Jack Ingall scored a pick-and-go, making the scoreboard 12-13.

But Donny hit back with a six minute purple patch. Roberts dotted down off the back of a driving maul, before Fyn Brown flattened Scots' Noah Ferdinand and made 40 metres, leading to some frantic interplay with Holden diving over the try line.

Scottish mounted a late charge, winning the scrum battle and a tap-and-go led to Ferdinand beating his opposite number in the left corner, before Alex Lloyd-Seed slotted home a penalty kick. But Holden broke from deep, making 50 metres to set up Fox for Doncaster's bonus-point try.
