LEEDS Tykes put their opponents to the sword, with a commanding victory to firmly assert themselves as mid-season promotion favourites.

The Tykes scored ten tries in arguably their best-attacking display of the season to date; leaving with few positives to speak of on their way home.

The hosts made their free-flowing intentions clear when Charlie Venables touched down after a scintillating passage of play after 13 minutes. Kieran Davies, who was lively throughout, grabbed the game by its haunches in the buildup. The Welshman later added a brace of tries to go with eight successful conversions.

Other Tykes tries came from Seremaia Turagabeci, Jacob Mounsey and substitute Will Hardwick, while Aarin Yorke deserves special praise for his hat-trick, which came in the space of 12 minutes either side of half-time.

Ionians fought bravely throughout but, in reality, didn't lay a finger on their rampant opposition.

Lewis Minikin scored ten of his sides 15 points, with Sam Pocklington also touching down in a consolation.

Tykes head coach Mike Aspinall praised his troops for their ruthlessness, saying, “We were relentless, and clinical, particularly after half-time which is most pleasing.”
