ROTHERHAM inflicted a first defeat of the season on joint-league leaders Fylde in a typically-tight contest between two promotion hopefuls.

Two tries from Callum Bustin, on his first start, helped turn the match in the Titans' favour after they had trailed 7-6 at half-time.

The Rotherham pack pinned Fylde back in the opening quarter, but had only Jonny West's penalty to show for it.

The visitors' ability to attack from deep was shown by their only try when Tom Carleton made a break for Henry Hadfield to score a try converted by Greg Smith. West's second penalty cut Fylde's lead at the break.

Although a Smith penalty edged Fylde 10-6 in front early in the second half, Rotherham proved to have the staying power. Bustin was driven over from a catch and drive and West converted to put them back in front.

Rotherham were briefly reduced to 14 men when George Tucker was sin-binned, but Fylde couldn't capitalise and after West and Smith traded penalties, Titans slowly turned the screw.

Rikki Stout applied the finishing touch to another drive to put them more than a score in front, before Bustin's second try settled the outcome.
