Wharfedale 27

kept well clear of the chasing pack following a nine-try win over Wharfedale at Heywood Road.

Sale were first on the scoreboard with a try from Sam Stelmaszek following a blistering run through the visitors defence by Paolo Odogwu who slipped a neat pass to the supporting winger for the opening try.

Liam McGovern landed the conversion but Wharfedale pulled three points back with a penalty from Tom Barrett.

However, further tries by Chris Johnson and Ollie Longmore opened up a 21-3 advantage.

A pick up in midfield by Andrew Hughes sent Stelmaszek away and with Odogwu up in support, the centre went over for the bonus point try on the half hour, McGovern again on hand with the extras.

It was Odogwu who had the fifth with an arching run outside of the Wharfedale defence. Wharfedale managed a try before the break with some good handling getting Tom Davidson in for 35-8 at the interval.

A try from Barrett kept Wharfedale interested but further Sale tries from Keiron Connolly, and two for Jack Moorhouse sealed the win.

Further tries from Scott Jordan and Robert Davidson earned Wharfedale a try bonus point.
