CANTERBURY scored a dramatic late try against Worthing to ensure that Tom Best's historic 300th apeparance for the club ended in victory.

The Raiders seemed desperate to spoil

Best's day, bagging a try in the first ten minutes as Jack Lake crashed over from a driving maul.

The Raiders pack created a second score, Harrison Sims crashing in underneath the posts for Thomas Derrick to convert.

Canterbury hit back with the first of two scores for Alex Evans, off a dominant maul.

From the kick off, Worthing extended their lead with a Sims try underneath the poles and Derrick got the extras.

Just before halftime, Alex Evans gave Canterbury a life-line, the flanker touching down off the back of a scrappy scrum.

Canterbury were again slow to start in the second half, with Worthing's Derrick bursting through a tackle to crash over.

Canterbury's Shay Kerry picked from the base of a ruck to carry tacklers and the ball beyond the whitewash.

The hosts built pressure before a line break on the ten-metre line saw Frank Morgan score and Frank Reynolds converted.

Worthing regained the lead with a Sims try, converted by Derrick, but home skipper Jamie Stephens crashed over in the last minute to snatch it.
