Redruth riot as Worthing blank

MATT SHEPHERD'S brace of second-half tries helped secure a bonuspoint win for and stretch their winning run to five.

It was Redruth who had the better of the early exchanges, harrying into errors.

Fly-half Honey opened the scoring with a penalty to put the Reds on the board, before his halfback partner Jack Oulton made a searing break from his own half, running to the opposition twenty-two before his pass found wing Dean Bonds who scored an unconverted try.

The Redruth forwards gradually got on top with props Jess Tompsett, Tommy Phillips and the Prisk brothers at lock putting in some big drives.

It was Tompsett who finished off a series of them near the Worthing line just before half-time to score Redruth's second try, Honey adding the extras.

Early in the second half fly-half Henry Anscombe struck a post with a penalty chance for the Raiders.

A lightning counter from Redruth saw wing Lewis Vinnicombe and Oulton take play into the twenty-two before Shepherd dived over for his first.

He then bagged a second from re-cycled ball near the Worthing line following good play from centre Jack Simmons.

Worthing came close to salvaging a score late on, but the Redruth defence held firm.
