Samuel Whitbread Academy began their season in style by winning the second edition of the Ipswich School 7s last weekend.

Having lost to Ipswich in their opener, the Bedfordshire-based school eventually beat the hosts 31-26 in the final.

Despite missing key players who were away with academy, the hosts looked strongest going into the tour nament and started well, winning their first three games before falling to Felsted School in their final group game.

Samuel Whitbread Academy stor med back after the early setback and did not concede a point in their two group game wins over New Hall School and Wisbech Grammar School en route to the final.

A back-and-forth final ended in victory for Samuel Whitbread Academy to win their first 7s tournament of the season.

Another major 7s tournament takes place today as 20 of the UK's strongest schools feature in the Christ College Brecon 7s tour nament in what is a litmus test for those looking ahead to the National Schools 7s.

Each group comprises of five teams with the top two progressing through to the cup quarter-finals.

Millfield, the most successful school in the tour nament's history having won six times, are in Group A alongside hosts Christ College and Coleg y Cymoedd. For mer winners Kirkham are in Group B with Hartpury College and last year's semi-finalists, College. Reigning champions Glantaf face stiff competition in group C with & Vale College and Coleg Sir Gar. Group D consists of last year's runners-up College, previous champions King's , Whitchurch High School and newcomers Stourport High School and Sir Thomas Rich's.

There were also some notable 15s matchups throughout the week. The Crypt School recorded an impressive 26-10 win over Hartpury on Wednesday whilst Christ College continued their stellar for m, beating Glantaf 35-12 away from home.
