director of rugby said his team had “shown huge character” after coming away from with a draw after a difficult week in which Chiefs players had dropped out through injury or illness, as well as disrupted travel plans.

Baxter said: “Everything was a challenge, and we've dealt with it and come through with what feels like a winning draw – and we'll take that every day of the week.”

Glasgow fly-half Adam Hastings did not hide his disappointment, despite being named man of the match. “You can show heart, but at the end of the day we've drawn again.

“I feel like we should have won… it's so frustrating because, as you can see from our patches of play, we're as good as any team – if not better – but we just let them off, and you cannot give a team like Exeter that chance.”

Exeter's two-try No.8 Matt Kvesic commented: “We knew we had a job to do, I don't know if we came up and executed it, but we got done what we needed to, and we'll take the draw – we're through.”

Kvesic added: “There was a bit of indiscipline and a few errors, which let them into the game, and everything – which is always tough – but we got the result, and we'll move on.”
