THE battle of the giants took place this weekend with the leagues two unbeaten sides Hornets and Exeter University coming head-to-head in an epic top of the table clash.

The Students, who have recorded try-scoring bonus-points in all ten of their games this season were the prematch favourites, but the hosts defied the odds to come away with a 22-17 win to move to the top of the table.

Captain and No.8 Matthew Parker stood out in particular for the hosts with his destructive tackline and dynamic ball carrying.

Old Redcliffians are up to third as they breezed past a disappointing Royal Wootton Bassett 38-10 with the hosts dominating from start to finish.

It was a tough weekend for Exmouth, who dropped to fourth following their embarrassing 31-0 home loss against an in-form Western Super Mare side.

It was also a good weekend for Okehampton as they beat Camborne 22-21 while Brixham picked up an unexpected 30-24 away win against Launceston to climb to ninth in the table.

And finally, Ivybridge dispatched bottom of the table Drybrook, but made hard work of it as they ended up only 29-26 winners despite coming into the game in red hot form and heavy favourites.
