THERE is still a field of dreams out there, and nothing showed it better than the resounding victory the Cornish Pirates carved out against Saracens on the opening weekend of the Championship.
The Pirates’ heroic stand at the Mennaye Field showed that the Championship still has a beating heart, despite the slash-and-burn financial policy adopted towards it by the RFU – and for that act of defiance the rest of the game below the Premiership is indebted to the Cornish club.
