STATEMENT: Dwayne Peel retires from rugby

star Dwayne Peel will retire from rugby with immediate effect due to an ongoing shoulder injury.
The skipper – who made twenty appearances for the club since 2014 – will join the coaching staff for the remainder of the campaign.
During a memorable playing career, Peel earned 76 caps for Wales, playing his part in two grand Slam victories in 2005 and 2008 and also captained Wales at 2007 RWC. He represented the on the 2005 tour to , starting all three tests.
Peel began his domestic career with RFC in 1999 to 2003 and from 2003 to 2008 where he played a total of 165 games before representing in the Aviva where he played 122 games.
He said: “It was a tough decision to make because I love the game, however following the medical advice, I really had no further choice.”
“I've been fortunate enough to enjoy some incredible experiences during my playing career and have met some fantastic people.
“I'm grateful to Bristol Rugby for their support and will continue to work hard alongside the coaching team to ensure the season ends on a high and I am excited for the new challenge that awaits.”
“I am disappointed and saddened for Dwayne that he has been forced to retire because of the shoulder injury,” said Bristol Director of Rugby Andy Robinson.
“On behalf of Bristol Rugby, I'd like to congratulate Dwayne on a remarkable career. Everyone that has played with or against him knows what a fine, skillful player he was.
“Dwayne was also a fierce competitor who played with a real fire in his belly. He has been a special player for all the teams that he has played for, including Bristol.
“His influence around the training ground and on all the players has been significant and that's why I had no hesitation in bringing Dwayne into our backroom staff ahead of the end of season push.
“He's worked closely with our A-League and B&I Cup squads already this year, and has utmost respect from the players.
“I am delighted that Dwayne has accepted a first team coaching role with Bristol Rugby.”
