Australia in World Cup semi-finals after controversial Scotland win

A controversial last minute penalty from Bernard Foley helped claim a 35-34 win over and qualify for the semi-finals.
In what turned out to be an eight-try thriller, Scotland thought they'd had cause the upset of the weekend when centre Mark Bennett intercepted and scored under the post to put his side 34-32 in front with eight minutes to go.
But referee Craig Joubert awarded a penalty to the with one minute left on the clock calling for a deliberate offside while replays suggested the ball came off an Australian hand.
Fly-half Foley stepped up to slot the penalty and send the Wallabies to the last four.
Australia scored three tries in the first half through Adam Ashley-Cooper, Drew Mitchell and Micheal Hooper but it was Scotland who had a 16-15 lead at the break as Craig Laidlaw kicked 11 points off the tee to go with Peter Horne opportunist try.
Mitchell's second, his 14th World Cup try, edged Australia in front but a charge-down try from Tommy Seymour kept the Scots in the game.
Tevita Kuridrani's try just after the hour had the Wallabies lead 32-24 before Laidlaw set up the tense finish with his fifth penalty of the game.
Bennett's interception try levelled the score and Laidlaw thought he'd won it with the conversion but the late penalty drama clinched it for Australia.
