Quintet cited following weekend’s incidents

Bath trio Matt Banahan, Francoi Louw and Lee Mears have all been cited following the heated clash between the West Country club and Leicester at Welford Road on Saturday.

Banahan was sent off for a dangerous tackle on Anthony Allen while Louw suffered the same fate after striking Geordan Murphy with his elbow.

On the other hand, Mears was cited for punching or striking an opponent following a report from the independent citing officer John Byett.

But they weren’t the only players cited after the game as Leicester flanker Brett Deacon also saw red for punching or striking an opponent in the Banahan incident’s ensuing melee.

They will be joined in Bristol tonight by London Irish No.8 Chris Hala’ufia who was sent off for a tenth-minute tip tackle on London Welsh Seb Jewell in the battle of the Exiles on Saturday.

He was unlucky with that tackle. A few years ago it would been a super tackle, no intent to hurt the opposition player there. James your right, reputation was his main offence.

There seems to be a trend with referees red carding players as soon as a leg goes in the air during a tackle. In real time it often looks like the player has been planted on their head, slowed down, it just looks silly!

    Did you seen the tackle?
I have watched it several times, and in my opinion it didn’t merit a penalty, let alone a red card!
If the disciplinary committee don’t recommend no further action I will be very surprised and disappointed.
I suspect it was his reputation that got him the card which is not fair!

Chris Hala’ufia should be banned for life; just another in a long line of disgraceful on field incidents. Kick this thug out of the game once and for all.
