Room 101: Danny Matthews – Harrogate scrum-half

Daniel Matthews1. Jealous diners
It grinds my gears when you order a restaurant or takeaway meal and whoever you are eating with at the time pinches some of your food. This often happens when you've chosen chips and they've gone for something healthy but can't help themselves nicking one or two off your plate when the food arrives. If I wanted to share a meal, I'd go for a sharing platter!
TRP verdict: Don't worry, these food thieves will get their just deserts by going into .
2. Restricted views
I'm a 5ft 7in scrum-half in a rugby team so I am used to being around taller people a lot of the time. However, it's still annoying when you go to a gig or a concert and you can't see what's happening on stage. You pay good money to see a band or a comedian – not the middle of someone's back. It's the same when you're out at clubs, the conversation normally goes way over my head … literally!
TRP verdict: Tall stories like this don't hold any sway with us. Get there earlier!
3. Moving clubs for money
Rugby is in danger of going the way of football where loyalty goes out of the window and people jump ship for the lure of extra cash. It happens at our level, National 2 North, where a club threatened with relegation starts to throw money around in a bid to bring players in, who they think might help them survive. It is such short-termism because those players have no emotional attachment to the new club and are just doing it for what they can get.
TRP verdict: Follow the pound signs … you're in luck.
